Fort Luton consists of four acres of land which is mostly unrestored. Maintaining and restoring this site is a continuous job that requires a dedicated team of Volunteers with an interest in working outside and undercover clearing vegetation, general maintenance, restoring fixtures and fittings and generally keeping the site as tidy as possible.
At the present time Fort Luton is undergoing a large project to open the fort for the public enjoyment as well as giving it a sustainable future. This includes fitting out the casemates as usable space, clearing the fort of vegetation and restoring as many original features as we can. By joining Fort Luton as a Volunteer you have the opportunity to become involved in a historically important project to recognise Chatham’s lost and forgotten concrete ring of Victorian Forts.
Fort Luton hopes to hold many events that require Volunteer support. These opportunities include guiding, event support, general restoration work with many other opportunities which regularly present themselves. Appropriate training will be provided. If you are looking for specific work experience, Fort Luton may be able to help you, we have already been able to help someone achieve work experience in plumbing. If you feel you have something to offer us please do not hesitate to contact us.
